August 27, 2004 Meeting Notes

Speaker: Margaret Moore
Gary Hill introduced our newest member, Margaret Moore as our speaker. Margaret is a former counselor turned martial arts instructor. She said she joined our Optimist Club because we are a "friend of youth", and teaching youth and adults Choi Kwang-Do martial arts is her passion.

Margaret got us all up on our feet and took us through some stretching exercises as she told us of the various benefits of martial arts as exercise and for overall improvement of health. We saw a demonstration of various defensive techniques assisted by members, Susan Carter, Steve Clair and Gary Hill.

She also told us about a recent case of a child of Turkish immigrants who had never spoken. Soon after beginning classes, he spoke his first words in her class.
